"The River's Edge Riders"

Meet Our Riders...

Stephanie
Along with her two younger sisters, Bethany and Alyssa, Stephanie came to The River's Edge in the Summer of 2009. She has been riding for a very long time, and has a lot of experience and training under her belt. She currently owns a paint gelding named Cody, who she still continues to show and do very well on, taking home the Day End Championship in the low hunters a few weeks ago. This past summer she competed River's Edge pony JellyBean in the jumpers and had a blast! She also enjoys working with River's Edge horse Portmagee, hoping to compete in the Adult Eq. However, recently Stephanie has just gotten a 5 year old OTTB mare, named Lacey, who she has high hopes for in the future as her show mount! They attended their first show together just one week after she was off the track, and they took home the Day End Championship in the green horse division! Stephanie is working hard to train Lacey, and hopes to continue to show her in green horse this coming season!  Along with working with Lacey, she is also taking lessons on some of  The River's Edge horses to work on her eq and improve her skills!  Good luck with Lacey, you guys will make a great team!

Bethany
Bethany has been riding at The River's Edge since Summer 2009, along with her two sisters Stephanie and Alyssa. She has had a lot of previous experience, and hopes to learn even more as she takes lessons and advances in her show career. Bethany owns a 13.3hh pony named Duncan, who she hopes to compete on in the Hunters and the Jumpers. She has jumped up to 4ft with Duncan, but he needs a better foundation to be a promising show mount. Bethany is taking lessons to learn how to better train Duncan to do his job, and he has already come such a long way! While training Duncan, she has also been riding some of The River's Edge horses, a strong favorite being Mon Ami or "Caper" as he's known around the barn. Bethany and Caper went to their first show together and competed in Adult Equitation, taking home an 8th place ribbon out of 21 riders. Bethany also competed in the jumpers on River's Edge pony MaryJane. They did very well together and had a lot of fun! We wish Bethany the best of luck with Duncan, you have a promising career ahead of you!

Alyssa
Alyssa came to The River's Edge in the Summer of 2009, with her two sisters Bethany and Stephanie. At only 15, Alyssa is the youngest of the girls, and hopes to make the most out of the remainder of her Junior career. She has been working and showing their own horse Cody, and does very well with him. She has also worked with a few of The River's Edge horses. Alyssa looks forward to many lessons without stirrups!! :) This past summer she competed River's Edge pony Montana Breeze in the jumpers and had a lot of fun! She has also competed in the Hunters on Mon Ami and did very well! Alyssa hopes to work hard with Cody, show on circuit this coming season and qualify for finals! She has quite the riding career ahead of her, so look out for her on circuit!

Samantha
At only 16, she has come a long way in her few years here at The River's Edge.  She began riding here summer of 2006, having basic riding knowledge, but had not jumped anything more than a cross-rail.   Now, only 3 years later, she is jumping up to 5', has successfully competed in the hunter and equitation rings as well as in the jumpers. She also competed in her first dressage test and cross-country event, taking home a 3rd place in each event.  She also has picked up some great training techniques and has been schooling ponies for us and also training some green prospects.  She hopes to be able to continue to compete in the hunters, jumpers, and equitation, but also to continue to train as well. Best of luck to you Sam!

Erin
Erin began her riding career here at The River's Edge.  Having only been riding for a little over 3 years, she has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time.  She has won multiple Reserve Day End and Day End Championships, having recently moved up from walk/trot to the Children's Hunter and Equitation rings, she is still doing just as well!   She mainly competed on River's Edge horse, Aly Hooch, and they make a great team!  She has also come a long way with her jumping and is now jumping up to 2'3"-2'6".  We are very proud of Erin and all her accomplishments in such a short period of time!  Erin competed at her first rated show in February of 2009 and did very well! She plans to continue to show locally and on circuit, and further her riding career.  Watch out for her in the future!

Natalie
Natalie  is a very accomplished and talented rider, and enjoys competing in the jumpers with her horse Tebo, a 17 hh Thoroughbred gelding.  Although this past season she has decided to try to get back into the hunters as well, and her and Tebo did very in both the hunters and the jumpers!  She plans to continue to show Tebo in both the hunters and the jumpers and she is also a full time student in the Equine Program at Johnson & Wales University.

Kerri
Kerri is a very brave and talented rider.  She has competed in hunters, jumpers and equitation, has shown locally and on circuit and is a very accomplished rider.  Kerri unfortunately had to retire her Bavarian Warmblood Odyssey after he was deemed un-rideable due to an injury.  She is now training horses and ponies for The River's Edge and also is continuing to compete on a few of The River's Edge horses.   She hopes to continue to compete, especially in the jumpers, and hopes to get a new mount in the future.

Colleen
Colleen began riding at The River's Edge Summer of 2006.  She came here leasing Ginger, a young QH mare.  Colleen was a solid little rider, but had not done much jumping.  Her first season showing with The River's Edge, Colleen continued to show Ginger in Children's Hunter and did very well, placing top 3 at most shows with 15+ riders in each class!  She decided she wanted to move up and really get into jumping, so she started to lease Donatello, one of The River's Edge top jumpers.  Along with Donatello, she also worked on her jumping with MaryJane, one of The River's Edge talented jumping ponies!   With the help of MaryJane, Colleen was able to greatly improve her jumping skills, and has now jumped up to 3'6"! Colleen's goal was to be able to compete in the jumpers, which she was able to achieve with Donatello in the Summer of 2008, placing 8th at her first jumper competition!  She hopes to continue to show in the hunters, but to also continue to do the jumpers as well!  Good luck Colleen!

Brooklyn
Brooklyn began riding at The River's Edge in the Fall of 2006.  She had a couple of western lessons before she arrived, but had never ridden english before.  I remember when she first arrived, her mother wanted her to stick with the western......we all look back and laugh now!  As soon as she tried english...there was no turning back for Brooklyn...and what a rider she has turned out to be!!   I have never seen a rider pick up things so fast!   She began riding our pony MaryJane, and then Jelly Bean, and then Monty.  Monty really helped her improve her riding skills, especially her jumping!  She has now jumped up to 3ft with Monty, and she couldn't be more proud! They competed in a few shows together, including Woodstock Fair, where brooklyn took home a 7th place out of about 20 riders, which she was very excited about.   She has won  multiple blues, and many Day End Championships. Brooklyn hopes in the future to move up to some rated shows.  She plans to continue with the hunters and maybe even try the jumpers!  Best of luck to you Brooklyn!

Ashley
Ashley came to The River's Edge with her horse Aurora in the Fall of 2007.  She had not had much formal riding training, but was one of the most confident, dedicated and determined riders i have ever seen.   She began taking lessons and working with Aurora, as well as some of The River's Edge horses.  She showed this past season with her horse Aurora and did very well.  She also competed on one of our boarder's horse's Tommy Boy, and placed 3rd and 4th out of 20+ riders at one of the biggest shows she had ever competed at!  She has unfortunately outgrown Aurora and has given her to a new home, but she continues to ride, and is now working with River's Edge horse's MaryJane and Forte. Her riding has greatly improved, and she has found a strong love for jumping!   They both have helped her a lot with her confidence over fences, she has now jumped up to 3'6", which she is very proud of!

Chelsea
Having been with us for almost two years now, i have really seen Chelsea's confidence sky rocket! When i first started working with Chelsea, she had an 8 year old Arabian Mare named Chloe. Chelsea had owned Chloe for 2 years, and those 2 years were not easy! Chloe gave Chelsea some hard times, and really effected her confidence on horseback. She put a lot of dedicated time and work into Chloe, and it definitely paid off. Chloe greatly improved, and it made Chelsea very proud to know she stuck through the bad times and made her into a nice mount. Unfortunately, Chelsea decided that she wanted to be able to do more jumping, and that Chloe was not going to be the horse for her. With much regret, she sold Chloe and found a new mount, a beautiful 14 year old Thoroughbred named Papa's Pride. Papa has helped Chelsea's confidence more than i can explain! She has had Papa for a little over a year now and they have done wonders together, taking home multiple day end championships, and even some blues at some rated shows! She has been doing very well in the hunters, and even gave the jumpers a whirl and pinned out of almost 30 riders! She has now jumped up to 3'9" and plans to continue to compete on circuit doing hunters, jumpers and equitation!  Chelsea hopes to qualify for finals this coming season! Good Luck Chelsea!

Hannah
Hannah began riding with The River's Edge in the Spring of 2008. She had been riding for a while before hand, and is a talented little rider. When she first arrived, she was not very confident about riding a large horse, so she started out working with River's Edge pony Montana Breeze. She competed in the hunters with Montana Breeze and did very well, taking home Reserve Day End Champion at their first show together. He helped her build her confidence a lot, and with the added confidence, she has now moved up to River's Edge horse Portmagee. Her and Portmagee compete in the hunters and equitation and do very well together...they make a great pair! She has so much more confidence in herself now, her jumping has truly improved, and Portmagee helped her jump her highest jump at the time, at 3'6"! She attended her first jumper show this past summer and did very well. She has also started to work on her jumping with our star jumper pony, MaryJane. Thank's to MaryJane, Hannah has now jumped up to 3'9" and loves every second of it! Best of luck to you Hannah!

Kelsea
Kelsea came to The River's Edge in the Winter of 2009 with her horse Justice In Motion - "Justin". Kelsea is a very strong rider, but sometimes doesn't think she rides as well as she actually does! She has owned Justin for the last year and a half and he has really helped her build up her confidence. We are trying to work with her on building up her confidence even more, especially over fences! Unfortunately before Kelsea and Justin came to The River's Edge, he began having some lameness issues. We thought he was starting to pull through, but then unfortunately it got worse again. While Justin is on rest till we find out his diagnosis, Kelsea has been working with River's Edge horses Portmagee and Montana Breeze. Kelsea and Portmagee went to their first show together in March and they did very well. It was Kelsea's first time jumping 2ft in a show, and although she was nervous, she pulled through and did great! Recently Kelsea has started to work with a horse who is new to The River's Edge, a 17hh Appendix Gelding named Mon Ami or "Caper". Her and Caper went to their first show together after only riding him twice! They rode in the Children's Hunter Division, and ended up taking home the Day End Championship out of 22 riders! Kelsea has also attended her first rated show with Caper, competing in the pre-childrens, and took home the Reserve Day End Championship! We are so proud of Kelsea and Caper, and look forward to what they can do together in the future. Kelsea hopes to qualify for finals aboard Caper, so watch for them on circuit this coming season!

Marissa
Marissa began riding at The River's Edge Winter of 2009. She came with a good riding foundation, and a lot of confidence, which helped her advance quickly and achieve a lot of her goals in a short period of time. In a few short months she has already accomplished many of her goals, including jumping a full course, and jumping 3ft for the first time! Marissa continues to set goals for herself and improves with each lesson. She attended her first horse show with The River's Edge this past March, and competed in Long Stirrup on River's Edge mount Portmagee. She did very well, and was very happy with her accomplishments! Marissa has also recently started to work with River's Edge horse, Aly Hooch. Her and Hooch have been working together for a few months now, and she has come a long way. She recently competed with Hooch in the low hunters and did very well, taking home a 6th place ribbon which was well deserved! Marissa hopes to continue to excel over fences, and advance in her show career! Good luck to Marissa in the 2009 show season!

Chris
In just a few short months, Chris has already come a long way! He has been riding for a few years on and off both English and Western, but needed work on balance and a basic foundation. He is a very dedicated and confident rider, and wants more than anything to succeed at riding! He is currently working on perfecting his balance and getting a stronger seat. He is getting very solid at walk/trot and is really starting to get a good seat at the canter.  Chris is not confidently jumping x-rails and has even jumped up to 2'3"!  Chris plans to begin showing this winter, we wish you the best of luck!!

Lauren

Lauren began riding at The River's Edge Winter of 2009. She has had a lot of extensive riding experience from hunter/jumper/equitation to barrel racing and over the years she has worked with many trainers throughout RI. She came to The River's Edge to get back into riding shape, and continue to jump bigger and better! She has jumped up to 3ft+ in the past, but has not had formal training in a while, so she is working very hard to get back into shape! She is a very confident rider. She does not give up for anything, and has an awesome seat! After leasing River's Edge horse Captain Jack for several months, and attending multiple shows with him, we would like to congratulate Lauren on being the proud new owner of Jack! Best of luck to you guys at shows to come!!

Laura (photo soon to come)
Laura began riding at The River's Edge in the Winter of 2009. She has come such a long way and we are very proud of her accomplishments! She started out riding Portmagee, but then quickly found a strong liking for Aly Hooch. Her and Hooch did very well together. They went to their first show together and won a 2nd place in Adult w/t Equitation! She was very excited! She leased throughout the summer and put in a lot of hard work and extra ride time. This all certainly pays off! She began working with Caper, and competed in Adult w/t and ended up taking home a blue in every one of her classes and winning the day end championship for her division. She couldn't have been happier!! Because those were her first two shows, she competed in w/t, but very soon she will be ready to move up to the canter divisions! In her lessons she is working on perfecting her over fences work, and has jumped up to 2'9", and has coursed up to 2'3" courses. On November 22nd 2009, Laura purchased her first horse! A 10 year old Thoroughbred gelding named All The Answers "Andy".  We wish Laura the best of luck at shows to come, and many wonderful years with Andy!

Amanda
Amanda came to The River's Edge with her horse Truman, a 5 year old Thoroughbred gelding, at the end of Spring 2009. Truman is her first horse, and she is trying very hard to learn all the ins and outs of horse ownership. She is very dedicated, and is trying very hard to advance in her riding and learn all she can. She has been lessoning on some of The River's Edge horses to improve her riding, and has come a long way! Some of the other riders have also been helping her with Truman's training, and he is doing better and better with each ride. Amanda and Truman are a great pair, and we wish them the best of luck!

Michele

Michele began riding at The River's Edge in the Winter of 2009. She came to The River's Edge with hopes to do more showing and more over fences work. She has been doing very well, and trying very hard to succeed her goals. She truly loves riding and is a very dedicated young lady. She has worked with River's Edge mount Aly Hooch, but has found a new found love for Portmagee. They have been working very hard together, and hard work pays off! Michele and Portmagee went to their first show together, this was also Michele's first time competing over fences. She ended up taking home the blue in both her over fences classes, and winning the Reserve Day End Championship for the division! Congrats Michele, best of luck to you!!

Kayla

Kayla started riding at The River's Edge in the Winter of 2009. She was just getting back into riding after taking some time off. Kayla started with riding Portmagee, and we took things slow to help her get back into shape. She has come a long way in the past couple months, and is a very dedicated rider! She has recently found a love for River's Edge pony JellyBean, and has been jumping some courses with him. Kayla and JellyBean attended a few shows together and did very well. Now Kayla has been riding Portmagee again, and is doing very well, attending a few shows with him and winning some ribbons! Kayla plans to continue showing, and hopes to be able to continue to improve her riding and advance with her jumping! Good luck to Kayla this show season!

Emma
Emma came to The River's Edge Spring of 2008 with her family and their horse Tommy Boy.  Emma had been riding for a few months before she came, but she has improved greatly since working with some of The River's Edge ponies.  She started out riding River's Edge pony Montana Breeze, who really helped her build up her confidence and taught her to jump! They went to a few shows together and she even took home a few blue ribbons!  She recently started River's Edge pony JellyBean.  She is now jumping small verticals with JellyBean and he has even taught her to canter!  They have now been to a couple of shows together and they truly make a great team!  Way to go Emma!

Aysha
Aysha began riding with The River's Edge in the Summer of 2007.  She picked up riding so quickly and within a few weeks was walking and trotting on her own. She attended The River's Edge Summer Camp and worked very hard on her riding. She even began jumping small cross rails and realized she really enjoys jumping!  She is a very dedicated and determined little rider.  All that practice and dedication paid off at her first show where she took home Day End Champion aboard River's Edge mount Jelly Bean. Aysha loves riding Jelly Bean and has formed a great bond with him. He has now taught her to canter and she is jumping small verticals! She continues to ride Jelly Bean and hopes to attend more horse shows in the future! Good luck Aysha!

Julie
Julie came to The River's Edge in the Spring of 2007.  She at the time, owned an 8 year old Thoroughbred Gelding named Zenith.  She continued to work with Zenith, but also enjoyed riding and showing River's Edge mount Aly Hooch.  She attended many shows with Hooch and ribboned very well.  In the Fall of 2007 she decided to sell Zenith because he couldn't jump and was not going to be the mount she had hoped for. After selling Zenith, she took some time off from riding, but is now back and has been working with River's Edge horse Portmagee.  She is now looking to purchase a new horse for herself and is looking forward to competing in the hunters next show season!

Nikki
Nikki began riding at The River's Edge in the Spring of 2008.  She had ridden a little previously, and was working on perfecting her posting trot.  She has now, in the past few months, not only perfected her trot but has also learned how to canter and has started doing some small fences as well!  Nikki loves being around the horses and truly enjoys jumping.  She has attended a few shows and did very well, taking home some blue ribbons!  We would like to congratulate Nikki on the purchase of her first horse, Brodie, a 9 year old Quarter Horse.  Best of luck to the two of you!
